What is Booking.com Genius?

Genius is Booking.com's loyalty programme for travellers. Guests who book often unlock discounts, and properties that join offer them a discount of at least 10%. In return, your home gets a Genius badge and more visibility in search.

Does Genius cost extra commission?

No, but it still costs you. PriceLabs explains: There is no extra commission to Booking.com for joining Genius. The discount comes off your price, then Booking.com's normal commission is charged on the lower price, so your income is reduced twice.

Does Genius bring more bookings?

Often, yes. Booking.com data cited by PriceLabs suggests properties in the programme see up to 70% more views in search results and up to 45% more bookings. Genius guests also tend to be frequent travellers who book again.

Who can join Genius?

You'll need good reviews and some booking history. PriceLabs lists a Review score of at least 7.5, at least 30 days on Booking.com, and at least 3 completed bookings. You can pause the discount for busy periods: PriceLabs notes You can pause your participation for up to 30 days per year.

What is the Preferred Partner Programme?

A programme for well-performing properties that want to appear higher in search results. Unlike Genius, it doesn't give guests a discount. Instead, you pay more commission. Wise explains that opting into programmes like Preferred Partner adds an additional percentage on top of your base commission rate.

When are they worth it?

  • Genius: worth trying when you have empty nights to fill, such as in quieter months. Pause it on busy dates, when you'd sell the nights at full price anyway.
  • Preferred Partner: worth it only if the extra bookings earn more than the extra commission costs. Test it, then compare your results.

How do you tell if they're paying off?

  1. Note your bookings, nightly rate and income for a month before joining.
  2. Join, and track the same numbers for a month or two.
  3. Compare what reached your bank account, not just the number of bookings.

Would you rather someone else ran the platforms?

Every platform has its own calendar, inbox, fees and rules. Keeping them all in step, day and night, is a job in itself. That job is what we do, for 12% + VAT of what each booking earns. If your home doesn't earn, neither do we.
