Quick answer: UK hosts find Airbnb cleaners through marketplaces such as Turno, through Airbnb's Co-Host Network, or by hiring a cleaner directly. No official body publishes UK cleaning prices. Turno's London page estimates £50 to £85 a clean from its own data, and the National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour from April 2026. A basic DBS check costs £20, according to GOV.UK.
Where can you find an Airbnb cleaner or cleaning service near you?
| Route | How it works, as the source describes it |
|---|---|
| Turno marketplace | Turno says you start a "Cleaner Search", local cleaners place bids, and bids expire after 48 hours (Turno). You are charged only when the cleaner marks the clean complete, and auto-pay is mandatory for marketplace cleaners (Turno). Turno is free for one property, or for any number if you only use its marketplace cleaners. Bringing your own cleaners costs $10 per property a month on two or more properties (Turno pricing). |
| Airbnb Co-Host Network | Airbnb says the Co-Host Network is available in the UK, and that cleaning and maintenance is one of the services co-hosts offer (Airbnb). |
| Hiring a cleaner directly | You agree the rate and the work yourself. The employment, right to work and insurance rules below then apply to you, depending on whether the cleaner is employed or self-employed. |
| A cleaning service or management company | The manager arranges cleaners, linen and checks as part of the service. Our guide compares co-hosts and property managers. |
What does an Airbnb or holiday let clean cost in the UK?
No government body or platform publishes official UK prices for Airbnb or holiday let cleaning. Three published figures give a guide:
- Turno: its London page lists "average cleaning prices" of £50 to £60, £60 to £70 and £75 to £85 for three categories it numbers 1, 2 and 3 without defining them, and says the figures are "estimates based on internal data" (Turno London).
- Guestwise: cleaners who take jobs with Guestwise on a self-employed basis are paid £15 to £18 an hour, as published on our cleaning jobs page.
- The legal minimum for employees: the National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over is £12.71 an hour from 1 April 2026 (GOV.UK). The rate is £10.85 for ages 18 to 20 and £8.00 for ages 16 to 17 and apprentices. GOV.UK says the minimum wage applies to people classed as workers, and not to self-employed people running their own business (GOV.UK). The rate from April 2027 has not been announced yet.
Our guide to turnover cleans and deep cleans explains the difference between the two jobs.
How do you set a cleaning fee on Airbnb?
- Go to Calendar and select the listing.
- Open Pricing, then Fees, then Cleaning fee.
- Enter the fee and save.
Those are Airbnb's own steps (Airbnb). Airbnb also lets you set a lower cleaning fee for 1 or 2 night stays. Airbnb says hosts may not charge guests for skipped cleaning or checkout tasks (Airbnb). Airbnb says the cleaning fee is not refunded once a trip is completed, and is not added to special offers automatically.
What checks can you run on a cleaner?
GOV.UK says anyone aged 16 or over working in England or Wales can get a basic DBS check for £20. The check shows unspent convictions only and usually takes up to 3 days (GOV.UK). An employer can request one through a DBS responsible organisation, which may add an admin fee (GOV.UK). Scotland and Northern Ireland use separate services.
Turno says every marketplace cleaner submits ID, a recent photo, a bio and references. Criminal background checks are mandatory for cleaners in the US, and elsewhere depend on where the cleaner is located (Turno). Turno's Cleaner Guarantee offers a replacement if a cleaner does not turn up, and its credits of up to $100 are for US-based hosts only (Turno).
Is your cleaner employed or self-employed?
GOV.UK lists signs of self-employment, such as bidding or quoting for work, no direct supervision, sending invoices and paying their own tax and National Insurance (GOV.UK). HMRC's employment status tool gives a result for tax purposes that HMRC says it will stand by if the information you give is accurate (GOV.UK). Turno says all cleaners on its marketplace are independent contractors (Turno).
If you employ a cleaner yourself, GOV.UK says you must register as an employer with HMRC before the first payday (GOV.UK) and check the person's right to work in the UK before they start (GOV.UK). HSE says employers' liability insurance is compulsory, with at least £5 million of cover, but that you will probably not need it for cleaners who work for several people. HSE adds that you may need it if the cleaner works only for you, and describes public liability insurance as generally voluntary (HSE).
What does Airbnb expect between stays?
Airbnb's ground rules say all listings should be clean and free of health hazards before check-in, with the home cleaned between every stay (Airbnb). Airbnb's own cleaning tips, published in August 2024, suggest a checklist, spare sets of linen and a deep clean every 2 to 3 months (Airbnb). The Guestwise cleaning standard shows the checklist cleaners follow in Guestwise homes.
