The council names Bootham Row, Castle, Coppergate, Esplanade, Foss Bank, Marygate, Monk Bar, Nunnery Lane, St George's Field and Union Terrace as its main car parks, which share these headline rates, and lists Bishopthorpe Road, East Parade and Rowntree Park separately. You can stay for several days at Marygate, with the charge worked out when you leave.

A note on prices: Parkopedia lists Marygate at £5 for an hour (£5.50 on Fridays, Saturdays and events), higher than the council page. The council's own page may not yet show its latest prices, so the machine in the car park shows the price that applies on the day.

Is there a Park & Ride in York?

Yes, six sites, with more than 5,000 spaces according to the council. First Bus, which runs the service, says parking is free and lists the sat nav postcodes:

First Bus states that the Askham Bar, Designer Outlet, Monks Cross and Poppleton Bar services stop outside York Station, and that overnight parking isn't permitted at Park & Ride sites. The council says buses run from 5.30am to 10.30pm, and it has considered adding paid overnight parking at Askham Bar and Rawcliffe Bar.
